This section presents an alternative developmental sequence for Christian Spirituality. Instead of the eight levels of the Second Peter Theory, the CYA Theory is made up of three groups of virtues, the Child, Youth, and Adult.
This section begins by reviewing the 2 Peter Spiritual development sequence. It then turns to an exegesis of 1 John 2:12-14, from which the Child, Youth, and Adult groups (CYA) are derived.
Following 1 John, an exegesis of the Parable of the Sower is undertaken. There the same three levels of sequential Spiritual development are identified. A fourth, pre-Christian, group is also identified. This is understood as a parallel to the 'Before Faith' level of the 2 Peter Theory.
Finally, a comprehensive review of all instances in the New Testament in which all of the virtues of the CYA sequence are present was undertaken. Modest support for the CYA sequence was found from these associated Scriptures.
